Carol Cavazos

Carol Cavazos is a General Assignments Reporter for CBS 11 and TXA 21. She started her career in television news as medical anchor/reporter in Tyler and later continued medical reporting as a news anchor in San Antonio and in Phoenix. In San Antonio, Carol was also assigned the courthouse beat for a year, which came in handy when her station in Phoenix sent her to cover the O.J. Simpson trial.

Besides covering monsoons, hurricanes, tornadoes, freezes and other weather stories, Carol enjoys writing serious feature reports. While Carol was in Phoenix, she won the National Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism for "Erin's Story." The report chronicled the lives of homeless and transient children. The Phoenix Chapter of the American Women in Radio and Television selected Carol for their Best Female Anchor Award. Recently, Carol was nominated for a Lone Star EMMY Award for "Prophetic Painter," a story about a traveling artist who paints what inspires him during church services.

Before joining CBS 11 and TXA 21, Carol had taken a time off from news to work in the non-profit arena. She says the experience has given her a different perspective on people, which has helped her become a better reporter because she believes the most interesting news stories are about people!

If you've got an interesting story you'd like to share with Carol, feel free to drop her a line.
