Derek Harper

Derek Harper started working with the CBS 11 / TXA 21 Sports Team in 2001, as co-host of the Dallas Mavericks pre- and post-game shows.

Derek played 16 seasons as a point guard in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks (1983-93), New York Knicks (1993-96), Orlando Magic (1996-97) and Los Angeles Lakers (1997-98).

He is the Dallas Mavericks' all-time franchise leader in assists (5,111), steals (1,551) and three-pointers made (705) and attempted (2,030) and ranks 3rd in points (12,597) and 7th in rebounds (2,232). He established a Mavericks franchise record in 1989-90 with 187 steals (2.28 spg, 5th in the NBA) and led the team in steals in 11 seasons. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1986-87 and 1989-90. He is only the second player in NBA history (along with Isiah Thomas) to register 15,000 career points, 6,000 assists and 1,800 steals.
