American Eagle Will Suspend Love Field Service
New Terminal Construction Forces Airline To Leave Dallas Airport Until 2013
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
American Eagle Airlines will suspend its service from Dallas Love Field as construction begins on a new terminal, officials announced Thursday.
Completion date of the new terminal is projected for 2013, but the suspended service means several jobs could be cut.
American Eagle will work with affected employees, where possible, to help find other opportunities within the company, officials stressed.
Eagle said the combination of the current economic times, as well as "the operational complexities caused by the need to move to alternate areas of the terminal during construction" contributed to the decision to suspend service.
"We have every intention of returning service to Love Field when the new terminal is completed," said Kevin Cox, American's Vice President - State and Community Affairs. "As further evidence of that, we've signed a new lease for space that solidifies our commitment at Love Field."
Also announced was American Eagle's parent company American Airlines commitment to a 17-year lease at the city-owned airport, which would secure the airline's position at the facility until 2028.
"While we're disappointed that Eagle is leaving Love Field for now, we understand the reasoning behind the decision," Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert said.
"We are clearly encouraged by American's determination to return to Love Field and the signing of its lease extension. We look forward to seeing American again in the new terminal at Love Field."
Eagle service between Dallas Love Field and Chicago O'Hare International Airport will be suspended effective June 11.
