Team Tasked With Getting DISD's Finances In Order
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The Dallas Independent School District announced a plan to make the district more financially efficient.
Dallas I.S.D. currently spends $1 billion to operate a school system with 158,000 students.
Wednesday, Superintendent Michael Hinojosa announced a trio of financial specialists to oversee all district spending. The three will collectively be paid almost $40,000 a month to transform the school systems financial operations.
The system has faced a variety of financial failings, including inadequate oversight of credit card purchases of teachers and others.
The three members of the financial team are also tasked with rebuilding public confidence after audits, scandals and public perception give the district a bad grade on financial oversight.
Officials within the district call it a financial transformation.
"We have a strong fiscal base, but now we need to be more efficient and make sure we have the controls and strategy to move us toward these goals," said Hinojosa.
Fiscal responsibility is a vital characteristic for a school system seeking more financial support.
The district is seeking voter support to spend $1 billion on a bond package that includes building new schools.
"The Our Schools, Our Future" campaign depends upon customer confidence.
