Hinojosa Faces DISD Evaluation Today

DISD Trustee Has 'No Confidence' In Superintendent

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Dallas Independent School District trustee Ron Price says he has "no" confidence in school superintendent Michael Hinojosa.

Price publicly blasted the superintendent at a news conference Wednesday.  There he blamed Hinojosa for the district's recent $64 million shortfall.

The budget blunder ultimately led to hundreds of DISD teacher layoffs.

"We cannot continue down this road of scandal, after scandal, after scandal," Price said. "It's unfair to our children. It's unfair to parents. It's unfair to our thousands of teachers who are working hard everyday."

Price accused Hinojosa of gross mismanagement and cited at least a dozen mistakes or oversights made by the district in the past year.

In late October, Price and two other school board members called for the entire board to take a "no confidence" vote.  Despite the urgings board president Jack Lowe refused to put the vote on the agenda.

Price told reporters, "I don't need a vote anymore.  I have no confidence in the superintendent.  I'm just telling it the way it is."

Hinojosa will meet with the entire board behind closed doors Thursday afternoon for his annual evaluation.

Hinojosa has repeatedly stated that he would not resign his post, because he wants to see the school district through this tough period.
