Laid Off DISD Employees Voice Frustrations
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
They lost their jobs and Thursday they received the chance to voice their frustration.
Laid-off employees from the Dallas Independent School District attended special hearings Thursday designed to give their two-cents worth on the budget mess that swept their jobs away.
"It is telling the community that their child is not important enough to have that support to continue to build on his or her own self esteem or personal goals," said Stella Esparza, a former DISD employee.
While hundreds lost their jobs, less than 40 people deemed it worthy to attend the hearing.
"It was important for me to share my story and just let them know that we're not just numbers, that we're people just like them with families just like them," said Sarah Nour, former DISD teacher.
Laid-off teachers and others said they needed to vent, and were given a chance to do so in front of a 3-person panel.
"Of course everybody want answers, and we have not been able to get the answers and that's the frustrating part," said Lindy Perkins, a former DISD assistant principal. "Even though we can't get the answers, it's good to have people to listen."
In the end, the panel could take no action and none of the job cuts were reversed.
