Group Sues DISD For Racial Discrimination

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A group of parents and their children have filed suit against the Dallas Independent School District, alleging racial discrimination.

Anthony Peterson joined ten others in a federal lawsuit against the school district.
The father of an eighth grade student says the school system provides lower quality facilities, academic programs and materials for schools in predominately African American neighborhoods.

The suit specifically sites the condition of Maynard Jackson Middle School.

"We feel that our children didn't get the support curriculum that they needed. We didn't have all the core curriculum teachers they needed," said Peterson. "Numerous factors, in my opinion, delayed my daughter's education process."

Officials with the school district have not commented on the lawsuit. The claim has been filed in U. S. District Court.
