Arlington ISD Superintendent Hector Montenegro resigned Monday before a scheduled board meeting. The district's leader was under investigation for receiving payments for speaking engagements.
Board members discussed his resignation and accepted his offer, which included stipulations Montenegro would remain on paid administrative leave for the next 10 days and his resignation would be effective July 31.
The district was investigating allegations that Montenegro received payments for speaking engagements. Expenses he charged the district during these periods also were questioned.
After his resignation, the district dropped the speaking engagements investigation, but said Montenegro will need to repay the district for the other expenses.
