DISD To Help Dismissed Workers Find New Jobs
District Works With Community To Get Potential New Employers With Released Employees
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Displaced Dallas ISD employees can attend a special job fair Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Dallas Convention Center.
District officials said the reduction in force is necessary to avoid a projected $84 million budget deficit for the 2008-09 school year.
During the past week, many took early retirement or were transferred to other positions at other schools, but even more received news they would not have a job.
DISD officials, however, said they want to help these staff members land on their feet.
"Our teachers and staff work very hard to help children learn, and many of these dedicated workers will now need to find new jobs because of the financial crisis," Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said in a release.
Dozens of businesses, school districts and community organizations are expected to be represented and ready to hire at the job fair.
Teachers and other contract employees released due to the reduction in force will keep their benefits and will be paid their full salaries by Dallas ISD until Jan. 16, 2009.
The district's Human Development Department will provide help to those displaced with updating resumes and polishing up on interviewing skills.
Those who attend are encouraged to bring updated resumes and any certifications they have.
Displaced Dallas ISD employees with questions about the job fair, substitute teaching, opportunities to earn certification in critical subject areas, assistance identifying vacancies at other school districts, obtaining service records, and more can call the district's Human Development Department at (972) 925-4200 for assistance.
