New UNT Program Offers Money For DISD Students
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The University of North Texas is offering free tuition to students who need it most.
Tuesday, UNT administrators announced the
Emerald Eagle Scholars Program.
The partnership pays for at least $28,000 in tuition and fees for academically talented students in the Dallas Independent School District who cannot pay for college.
Students say it's a dream come true for their families.
"My mom and father - they're ecstatic," said Harris Martin, UNT Emerald Eagle Scholar. "They sent me off to school, and they don't have to pay anything. You know, how many other students can say that?"
The program will begin next fall and is expected to benefit 250 students over the next four years.
