Woman Died Saturday In Car Crash; Police Say Fiance Was Drunk
McKINNEY (CBS) ―
As the family of a McKinney elementary school teacher readies for her funeral, her husband-to-be is charged with her death.
Anna Guirguis was the passenger in the car driven by her fiance, 35-year-old Christopher Edgmon, who police say was drunk when he pulled in front of a Toyota 4Runner early Saturday morning.
According to reports, the couple was on Custer Road near Highway 121 in Frisco when the SUV hit the passenger side of Edgmon's Mercedes.
Edgmon faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter. He was also arrested for DWI in 2004, but the case was dismissed.
Guirguis was a third grade teacher at McGowen Elementary School in McKinney and a mother of two -- a 15-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter, who is a student at McGowen.
"She just had any infectious personality - always smiling," says McGowen principal Mike Forsyth. "For kids, especially kids in third grade, their teacher's their hero. Anna was a hero to those kids."
Although school is out for the summer, fellow teachers met on Sunday with school administrators after learning of Guirguis' death.
School officials also called the families of Guirguis' class to let them know of her death.
The entire student body also received letters from Forsyth informing them of the accident.
She was also the mother of a 15-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter, who is a student at McGowen.
"From the moment that we interviewed her for our new school last summer it was obvious that we had found a special teacher," Forsyth wrote in the letter. "Ms. Guirguis made each of her students her sole focus.
"We sincerely appreciate knowing that you will be keeping Ms. Guirguis' family, her students, and our faculty in your thoughts and prayers as we all begin the journey of healing from this grief."
Guirguis will be buried in Houston on Wednesday. A private memorial service will be held at the school on Friday.
