Nacogdoches Coach Accused Of Sex With Student

(AP) An East Texas high school girls' basketball coach has been arrested on a felony charge of having an improper relationship with a student.

Dayna Crenshaw, 33, a girls' basketball coach at Nacogdoches High School, was arrested Tuesday morning. She was accused of having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old female student, said Nacogdoches Independent School District Police Chief Doug Ploch.

Crenshaw's attorney, Tim James, said "we do intend to vigorously contest these allegations."

School district police were contacted April 25 about allegations by student saying she had been involved in a sexual relationship with a teacher. In an affidavit for a search warrant, an officer said he had "reason and evidence to believe that Crenshaw knowingly and intentionally had a sexual relationship with a student between the dates of Dec. 1, 2007, and March 31, 2008."

Crenshaw was placed on administrative leave after the allegations surfaced.

"This is unfortunate that allegations such as this arise in our community," said district superintendent Rodney Hutto. "If this proves to be true, we will pursue it to the full extent of the law. There is no place for this in Nacogdoches ISD."

Crenshaw was released on bond Tuesday afternoon.
