N. Texas Schools Going Online To Raise Money

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Some North Texas students are getting a lesson in fundraising during tight economic times.

Forget candy bar sales and car washes.  Private schools are turning away from traditional fundraising methods and hitting the internet. Schools say online auctions offer them a broader audience and more efficient use of money.

The head of the parent-teacher organization for St. Peter's Classical School in Fort Worth says 91% of revenues will go into the school as opposed to 50 or 60% from events like silent auctions that require overhead costs for hosting the event.

A marketing firm for one of the auction's online hosts, BiddingForGood.com, says people have sent $9 million in the last four months to hundreds of schools and charities through online auctions.
