GCISD Advanced Placement Students Caught Cheating

COLLEYVILLE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Some smart kids in Advanced Placement courses are in trouble for possibly cheating in a sophisticated way.
According to Colleyville Heritage High School, when a teacher was not looking, at least one student downloaded quiz answers and posted them on a Web site.
"The school takes things like this very seriously," said Megan Overman, public information officer for Grapevine/ Colleyville Independent School District.
According to Overman, at least 25 of their high performing students admitted to being involved in using the downloaded quiz information.
Students who take Advanced Placement courses are eligible to take a test at the end of the semester. If they pass, they are granted college credit for the course. Only a pencil is allowed in the examination room.
"There's like three teachers at the door making sure you don't bring anything, even food," said student Sheena Patel. "They make sure you don't bring anything and put everything aside."
While the quiz wasn't part of the Advanced Placement exam, it did count for 20 percent of the class grade.
Other Advanced Placement students found the news upsetting.
"AP kids do work hard, and it's just some students who will do the wrong thing," said student Cruty Patel.
The high school was recently praised by Newseek magazine for its academic achievements.
