FWISD Confident About 1st Round TAKS Scores
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The first round of TAKS testing results show 86 percent of Fort Worth ISD 8th graders met standard and not one student group declined in scores from recent years, district officials said.
Grades 3rd through 8th all showed gains, the district noted in a news release.
"Our middle schools again showed tremendous strength with every campus and every student group achieving above the Recognized level," said Superintendent Melody Johnson. "We continue to build on our successes, implement actions around our challenges and look to the future with great hope and optimism."
Preliminary results and key gains grade by grade are:
According to those results, 80 percent of 3rd grade students met standard. Hispanic students in that group had a 3 percent point gain while 85 percent of the Grade 3 Spanish students ranked in the met standard category.
In 5th grade student scores, 72 percent fell in the met standard category. District officials noted while this grade level is still above the Academically Acceptable standard of 70 percent for the All Students group, scores remained level in each student group from 2008 to 2009.
Additionally, district officials noted the African American and Economically-Disadvantaged student groups fall below the Academically Acceptable standard of 70 percent with scores of 65 and 69 percent accordingly.
They said because these groups are close to the standard, it is anticipated that they will meet when results from the 2nd administration in April 2009 are included.
