Habitat For Humanity's Business Booming In Economy

CBS News Interactive: Eye On The Economy

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. (CBS) ― As more businesses fold in this economy, one local business has never been better. One Habitat for Humanity ReStore has nearly tripled its sales since opening three years ago, and is receiving so many donations that it is running out of room.

"We've been doing 50 sales a day," said executive director Debbie Arakel. "That's compared to about 35 to 45 sales a day in the previous two or three months."

Arakelsays the construction slump is actually helping sales.

"With the economy down, people are really focusing on saving money, doing more maintenance, doing more self-improvements on their homes," she said.

The ReStore has become so popular, there are hopes to expand the store, CBS station KOVR-Tv reported.

All profits from the Restore goes to build one to three homes in the area for affordable housing. If they open a new ReStore, they expect to build at least one more home a year.
