A popular carpool Web site says traffic has more than doubled since February as gas prices continue to climb and commuters look for way to save money.
"It's getting close to getting tripled at this point," said Steve Schoeffler, founder of erideshare.com.
The site helps people looking for carpool opportunities meet people who are willing to travel from the same areas at the same time.
The online tool lets people enter the days of the week they want to carpool and what times they work. Commuters can even note that they have flexible hours.
Some people said carpooling has many benefits besides saving money on gas.
"Breakfast, financially, getting there at the same time, leaving at the same time so nobody is feeling like they're working longer than the other person," said Mike Aragon, a Thornton, Colo., resident.
Some people told CBS station KCNC-TV in Denver they were still concerned about trusting someone else with their travel schedule.
Erideshare.com offers tips for connecting online and encourages potential carpoolers to meet in a public place before agreeing to travel together.
