Many Texans Staying Home This Holiday

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 News) ―

It's a familiar refrain.  "We don't want to drive anywhere.  It's too expensive."  Catherine Murphy is one of many North Texans who are staying close to home this holiday weekend.

Murphy and her family chose a water park in The Colony.  Attendance is up this holiday weekend as compared to last year.

The American Automobile Association says gas prices have clearly taken a toll on travelers.  The group says more than half of those surveyed are cutting back on driving.

Yarad Bogade is among them.  "Oh, man," he said.  "Gas prices killing us, man."

Katey Arnett spent Friday morning at one of the many parades in North Texas.  "I drive a Suburban, which is crazy," she said, "But I do find myself staying close to home this summer."
