Irish To Play Sun Devils At New Cowboys Stadium

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 News) ― Another college football game has been scheduled for the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. The University of Notre Dame and Arizona State University have both agreed to meet in Arlington on October 5, 2013 for the first match between the schools since 1999.

"Bringing the storied tradition of Notre Dame football to the new stadium in Arlington to take on a national power like Arizona State makes this an exciting day for all of North Texas," commented Jerry Jones, owner of the Cowboys. "Our region lives and breathes football, and I can't think of a better place to showcase two of the nation's top programs than right here at our new home."

When the two teams last met, the Fighting Irish beat the Sun Devils 48-17 at Notre Dame Stadium.

In Texas, Notre Dame will play as the home team. "We're thrilled to have a chance to return to North Texas where Notre Dame football has had such a rich tradition," said the school's Director of Athletics, Kevin White. "We're also excited that both our players and our fans will have a chance to experience a football game in what'll be a state-of-the-art facility designed by the Cowboys."

"We are excited to participate in this unique college football event in the new state-of-the-art stadium the Dallas Cowboys are building," said Arizona State Director of Athletics, Lisa Love. "We believe this will be a magnificant game for our fans and alumni. Our coaching staff recruits in the state of Texas, and this will only serve to assist in that area."

Notre Dame will make tickets available to alumni and fans through the alumni lottery, as is normal with all their games. Arizona State will also receive a set amount of visiting team tickets. Ticket sales to the public will be made through the Cowboys stadium.

The stadium is still under construction, and is set to open in 2009. Aside from the regular Dallas Cowboys games, other college football games are already scheduled to be played in the new facility. The includes the 2009 and 2010 Big 12 Championship games, the annual Cotton Bowl game and the annual match between Texas A&M and the University of Arkansas. Super Bowl XLV will be held in the stadium in 2011.
