Could Arlington Neighborhood Become Parking Lot?
Property Sales To Cowboys Worries Some Residents
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
"It just keeps growing and growing and growing," an exasperated Faye Cato said of the increase of lost land to a new neighbor: the Dallas Cowboys stadium.
"And we really don't need it but we've got it," the long-time Arlington resident said.
Across the street from Cato's house where there used to be a playground, the Cowboys want a parking lot, she said.
She said Jerry Jones has bought up properties like the church school and neighboring lots and may be negotiating with other property owners between Web and Slaughter streets and Randol Mill Road.
Some say since the stadium could be 7,000 parking spots short for big events, which could actually help neighborhoods.
Team officials, however, have to convince the city it's a good idea.
"What we need to be, as a city, is very proactive about and very aware of is to ensure that there is not parking of visitors to the stadium in residential neighborhoods meaning on residential streets in front of our homes," stressed District 3 City Councilman Robert Rivera.
Cato said whether it's a Cowboys project or others, her beloved neighborhood will be a parking lot.
"We're going to go to the country because this is going to get so busy in here, you know? It's not going to be the same after it all opens. It's going to be hard. It's really going to be hard. What are we going to leave behind? What are we going to take everything. It's going to be hard. But we'll survive."
