Questions Surround Cop Involved In 'Pacman' Fight

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Internal Dallas Police Department documents released Thursday show conflicting reports of the night Adam "Pacman" Jones was escorted from an upscale Dallas hotel. Those events would later get Jones suspended from the NFL indefinitely.

DPD Officer Rodney Allen stated in the report that he was on routine patrol when he stopped to speak with security officers at the Joule Hotel around 11 p.m. on Oct. 7.

"At that point I observed Mr. Jones and his bodyguard joking around with each other. As I admired the hotel designs, the hotel security advised me that something was going on in the restroom near the lobby. The hotel security then asked me to check out the problem because two male individuals were in the restroom playing around," Officer Allen stated in the report.

"As I arrived at the restroom, I observed Mr. Jones' girlfriend at the restroom door stating to the two male individuals to stop playing around before they got thrown out the hotel," Allen continued. "After escorting them to their vehicles, Mr. Jones stated he was ready to go home anyway. Once Mr. Jones was inside of his vehicle, he stated he was ok and thanked me for being there."

Officer Allen's final written observation conflicts with reports from witnesses that night. "I also did not observe Mr. Jones intoxicated," he stated in the report.

However, in another statement to the chief of police, Deputy Chief Vincent Golbeck said, "During the verbal questioning of Officer Allen, he stated that Mr. Jones appeared to have been drinking, but not to the point where an arrest needed to be made for public intoxication. However, he didn't include this in his written statement."

Golbeck also noted that the details in Allen's report were "very vague" and acknowledged that "vagueness can be construed as not being forthcoming with all of the facts known, which can cast doubt on his and the department's credibility."

The documents also included a list of prior issues Officer Allen has had with the department, including "untruthfulness when conducting police business."

ESPN reported Thursday that Pacman will decide whether or not to undergo alcohol treatment in Dallas in the next two days.

On Tuesday, CBS 11's Bill Jones reported the body guards were fired following Jones' suspension.
