Arlington Mayor Wants Pedicab Ordinance In 1 Month

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Arlington may soon be putting the brakes on some pedal-powered traffic problems.

Bicycle cabs, or pedicabs, have become popular means of transportation around Cowboys Stadium on game days.

But as we've reported, the pedicabs aren't regulated.

Now Arlington's city council is looking at a series of new restrictions on pedicabs including licensing, inspecting the vehicles and background checks for drivers.

And after seeing the bikes in traffic, the city may limit where pedicabs can drive.

Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck says he nearly crashed into a group of the pedicabs recently.  "I could have hit them very easily," Cluck said.  "They were swarming and going in and out of traffic. I think once we get a law passed, an ordinance passed, it will take care of a lot of that."

Mayor Cluck says he'd like the council to pass the regulations within a month.
