Billion-Dollar Cowboys Stadium Still Has No Name

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― You could say the Dallas Cowboys are in Roger Mays' blood.

"My dad named me after Roger Staubach," he said.

And when his son was born, he passed on the same legacy. "I was looking for a Cowboy legend, and there's no bigger than Tom Landry, so his name is Landry," he said.

As they celebrate an end of an era at Texas Stadium, fans are already looking forward to the team's new glimmering, billion-dollar and still unnamed home going up in Arlington.

"I'm kind of a sentimental guy, so I'd like to see a Tex Shramm or a Tom Landry," said Mays.

Eight months away from kick-off, the Cowboys remain tight-lipped about a name and naming rights for the stadium.

"We feel confident at the end of the day we'll have naming rights secured for the building," said Cowboys spokesperson Brett Daniels. "We're really not working on a timetable for that."

"The entire industry is looking at this deal," said Erin Patton, a sports marketing professor at SMU's Cox School of Business.

He believes Miller-Coors, AT&T, Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Exxon-Mobil and Bank of America are all good choices.

"For the Cowboys, I like Bank of America. You've got America's team. You've got an established partnership," Patton said.

But Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck says getting the right company is important. He points to The Rangers Ballpark at Arlington next door, which was called Ameriquest Field for a short time until it ran into financial problems.

"Lesson learned from Ballpark: you have to make sure you have a very financially stable company to put up on the side of the building," said Mayor Cluck.
