21 Things Women Should Know About Buying Swimsuits

(Angela Swanner)

Considerations when purchasing a swimsuit:

  • Make time for yourself when going swimsuit shopping.  Make sure that the store you choose, such as JCPenney, has a good selection of swimwear for all ages, shapes and sizes.
  • Know how you will use the suit !  Women want to feel comfortable and confident in their swimsuit.
  • A sun goddess at the beach would not need/want the same suit as a mom chasing kids at a water park.
  • The mom at the water park should consider a suit with shorts for the bottom piece for maximum comfort.
  • The sun goddess might go for the suit with beautiful embellishments, like our A.N.A. black tankini with gold buckles.

Some activities to consider:

  • Water Aerobics
  • Beach
  • Home Pool
  • Water Park

Know your anxiety zones -

  • What part of your body do you want to enhance?  What part of your body do you want to minimize?  There are fit solutions for every shape and size!

  • For minimizing the tummy, pick a one piece suit with embellishments, and shaping at the midriff for a slimming effect. The JCPenney A.N.A. brown one-piece is a great example.

  • For minimizing the bust, pick a halter top, and/or adjustable strapped suit to provide support and comfort.

  • For vacations, always take your cover-up for those day long excursions that go from the beach to dinner—many of our JCPenney cover-ups work perfect for the beach-side restaurants.

Pick something you like !

  • Swim season is all about color.  JCPenney's trend-right standouts include beautiful neutrals like black and brown, to greens and yellows.  A flattering style in your favorite color will certainly make you confident and comfortable.

  • A common mistake that women make when buying swimsuits is picking a size that is too small.  You should generally buy a suit that is one size larger than your jean size.  This will keep the suit from riding and feeling uncomfortable.

  • Always rinse your suit after swimming in chlorine.  This will help make your suit last a lot longer.

  • Take a friend with you for an honest opinion!

  • Accessorize ! The right store can dress you from head-to toe for your swim suit shopping.  JCPenney has everything you need for a great look, top to bottom!

  • Don't forget great sunglasses to compliment your suit, your activity and for protection from the sun's rays.

  • And for a leisure activity, great hoop earrings and a hat are must!

  • Flip flops for the beach, water shoes for the water park and water aerobics!

  • Pick a great beach bag for carrying extra changes, beach towels and a snack for a day at the beach.

  • Once you find your style, try on a lot of colors and brands within that style for the perfect one.

  • For the really active swimmer, buy enough suits to last the summer and vacations and give yourself some choices for different occasions!

  • Buying a swimsuit is as stressful as buying a wedding dress, so de-stress beforehand, and have fun!
