21 Things Women Need To Know About Breast Health

  1. The Bridge Breast Network is available to help women (and men) in North Texas with breast health concerns.
2. Breast cancer does not just happen in October.
3. Anyone can get breast cancer.
4. Be proactive - do monthly breast self exams.
5. Young girls should learn to do breast self exams when they start puberty.
6. Maintain a healthy lifestyle- eat a balanced diet, get physical exercise, and reduce your caffeine and alcohol consumption.
7. Know your breast. Every breast lump does not mean cancer.
8. Early detection and treatment lead to survival.
9. Men can get breast cancer.
10. Encourage family members and friends to have an annual physical and receive a clinical breast exam.
11. No one has to suffer in silence with breast cancer because they lack insurance.
12. If you find a lump and are uninsured call The Bridge at 214-821-3820 or 1-877-258-1396.
13. If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, do your homework to learn everything you can about the disease.
14. Stay positive no matter what your diagnosis. Remember: You have breast cancer; breast cancer does not have you.
15. The Bridge Breast Network can help you through your breast cancer journey.
16. You are not alone. Join a support group if you have breast cancer, because your story may help someone else recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
17. There is life after breast cancer, so seek help immediately and become a survivor!
18. The Bridge Breast Network provides diagnostic and treatment serves to uninsured women (and men) in 16 North Texas Counties.
19. If you have a family history of breast cancer, ask your doctor if you should have a mammogram before age 40.
