Permanent Roadside Memorial Established For Teen
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 News) ―
While many Americans are remembering their fathers Sunday, one Arlington family is remembering a son who died at the hands of a drunk driver last year.
The family put up a roadside memorial near the very spot 17-year-old Nick Cullens lost his life.
The road sign was placed at the intersection of South Cooper and Sublett Road in Arlington. Police say Nick and his friends were crossing the intersection on April 14, 2007 when they were hit by a drunk driver.
His grandparents bought the sign through
Tx-DOT's memorial sign program. The family hopes it helps anyone who sees it.
"If they drink, get a friend to drive them home," said Nancy Miller, Nick's grandmother. "That will help in Nick's memory."
Nick was the oldest of four grandchildren.
The family is still waiting for a trial and sentencing of Adam Michael Parks. He was arrested in charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault for Nick's death on May 23. Nick would have been 18 that day.
"He was getting ready to graduate. He could've been going to college. We could've been great grandparents instead of grandparents," said Lee Miller, the victim's grandfather.
