Learn How To Adjust Your Plaid-itude!

This season, one of the biggest trends to hit the runway was plaid. Though some women may feel like plaid is difficult to pull off, it really can have a place in your everyday wardrobe - if you just keep a few tips in mind. We hit Galleria Dallas to find four fabulous plaid pieces that will look great, no matter what your plaid-itude!
THE JACKET
A plaid jacket from Nordstrom at Galleria Dallas can really be the statement piece of any outfit. The key is to keep the rest of your look simple and understated by sticking to solid colors and minimal jewelry for the rest of your outfit. The jacket should be the star here, and should not have to compete with the rest of your outfit. Also, the size of the print should match the size of your frame. If you are petite, stick to a smaller print, but if you are tall, you can pull off a larger pattern.

THE SKIRT
In order to look modern and youthful when wearing a plaid skirt, the most important factor is the cut of the skirt. Look for a skirt like the one seen at right from Arden B. that has a pencil shape with a hem to the knee…the high waist makes it even more on-trend. For fabulously feminine look, try wearing opaque tights with a high-heel Mary Jane.

THE TROUSER
When wearing a plaid pant, it's best to keep the plaid subtle. Large-print pants can feel very "Brady Bunch" but a subtle plaid pant, like the ones featured at right from Zara, can look ultra modern. The print almost looks solid from far away, so you can play up the look by pairing it with a rich solid color top, like the blue velvet cropped blazer worn with the trousers in the photo to the right. Stick with a wide leg for the most flattering pant shape. Skinny pants with a print can emphasize a heavier hip or thigh.

THE DRESS
A plaid dress like the gorgeous black and gray version from Karen Millen, can easily take you from work to weekend. Plaid does not limit your options in terms of where you can wear it. The dress has a very feminine cut, and you could easily pair it with calf-high boots for daytime OR with some sexy stilettos and a patent clutch for evening.
