GRAPEVINE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
You've probably seen them before and chances are if you're a parent you may even have one in your house. But an item that many call a toy has a North Texas boy in serious trouble.
Airsoft guns come in different sizes, but most are clear plastic and have a colorful tip so others can tell it isn't a "real" gun.
While airsoft guns shoot colorful pellets; it specifically says on the back of the container that the gun is not a toy.
Now, a Grapevine boy could face criminal assault charges for shooting another child with airsoft pellets. Police say a 4-year-old was hurt when a 12-year-old shot him with an airsoft gun.
Police say the 4-year-old squirted the older child with a water gun first, but the 12-year-old's retaliation has landed him in hot water.
"Anything that fires a projectile of any type could possibly hurt someone seriously if it were to hit them in the eye, or something like that, and probably just not a good idea to have a child using something like that unsupervised," explained Grapevine police Sgt. Larry Hallmark.
While the Grapevine incident is still under investigation, police say the 12-year-old may face misdemeanor assault charges.
