Advice From The Dating Diva: Have A Date Game Plan

Deanna Frazier, Attraction Expert
  Be Prepared:

On the first date it is very important that you prepare yourself to have a good time.

Repeat "I'm going to have fun" to yourself if you start to feel anxious. This will develop a positive mental attitude and build your self-confidence.

The First Date

On the first date you should go out for coffee or lunch. Keep it casual. If you meet for lunch, you always have work obligations as an excuse of the date is a bust. If you are having fun, you can always agree to meet again.

Men use first dates for checking you out, not for instant romance. Be yourself. You're checking each other out, but you don't need to work at it to impress him. He's not looking to be swept off his feet by you—that's your romantic ideal, not his.

The Second Date

On the second date, go out for dinner. Don't go to a movie where you spend two hours sitting silently in the dark. You should be talking, talking, talking.

The Third Date

The third date is the key because it is the one in which you decide whether or not you want to continue seeing each other. If there are three strikes against him after the third date, he's out of your dating lineup.

You might want to keep a scorecard, especially if you're dating more than two men. He should earn extra points for bringing flowers or something as nice.

Here are some warning signs that will help you keep score:

• Excessive questioning. Do his questions have jealous overtones?
• Time commitments not honored. Is he chronically late?
• Excessive need to be in control of dates.
• Abusive treatment of service staff.
• Alcohol/drug abuse.
• Racist remarks
• "Forgets" his wallet.
• Sexual remarks.
• Unwanted sexual advances.
• Wandering eyes.
