Parents, Babies Loving North Texas Disco Party

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―

Parents, remember those days when you could go out, dance the night away, and have a good time?  If you thought those days were long gone, think again!  There's a new reason to go to the club, and now even your kids can get in on the act!

The kids attending this 'underage party' have just learned to walk, and they're already getting funky!  The babies love disco and they're partying it up at one of Dallas' hottest night spots.

"Baby Loves Disco" is a new craze in parent/child parties that's dancing into North Texas.

"I actually read about Baby Loves Disco in Parents Magazine, and it just sounded like something fun to do with my child," says local host mom, Kristine Eschman.

The idea behind "Baby Loves Disco" started as a small party in Philadelphia and has since grown into a 21 city jam. "It's an afternoon dance party in a hip environment, not like the mall play area," Eschman explained.

The host mom describes the event as a perfect bash for kids and parents alike.  She says everyone is guaranteed a good time. "We want the kids to have a good time, but we also want the parents to have some fun," she says.

Dallas mom Melissa and her daughter Gracie are first time disco dancers. "This is absolutely amazing," Melissa says. "To have parents and children to be able to have fun together and dance and just brings families closer together."

From disco dancing with scarves and hula hoops, to catching bubbles in the air, the kids at this party couldn't get enough. And if you need a break there's a 'chill out room' - a comfy place to relax, play or read a good book.

"It's a good way to come and do something a little bit different, and so it's fun," says one father as he reads to his son.

You can even add some 'bling' to the afternoon with face painting, or loosen up with baby yoga.  The price is cheaper than most nightclubs with walking humans paying $13 to get in the door – non-walkers get in free. Once inside everything else, including snacks and drinks for the kids, is free.

"It's a really good chance to meet other moms in the same situation," says Kimberly Jones of Mesquite, another first-time visitor.

"Saturday afternoon is the new Saturday night," says dad Rick Scheer.

Eschman says she gets a lot of feedback on the events, especially from the dads who come to see what's going on. "I heard that they all went back to the office on Monday and talked about this great party they went to with their toddlers."

Most parents echoed that sentiment saying they were going to tell everyone they knew about it.

"Baby Loves Disco" is for kids 6 months through 7 years. Parents, family members, siblings and friends are also invited to the 'underage party'. The next party date is September 27th in downtown Dallas.
