Police Arrest Woman For DWI -- In Cemetery

Caller Tips Denton Police To Reckless Driver

DENTON (CBS 11 News) ― An anonymous call led police to a woman who was knocking over headstones at a Denton cemetery.

Police said the citizen phoned police after he noticed a minivan driving in circles and plowing down headstones inside the Oakwood Cemetery.

According to reports, Denton Police Officer Kevin Case said the blue minivan drove toward him with its emergency lights flashing.

The female driver also poured beer out of her window as she drove.

Debra Kay Dixon was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and criminal mischief.

The woman told police – in a slurred voice -- she had just come from the cemetery visiting family.

Denton Police Chief Roy Minter credits the caller: "The call from this citizen made all the difference. If no call had been made, this woman might not have been caught. Families in the community might have mistakenly believed that the grave sites of their loved ones had been targeted for more malicious reasons. Kudos to the anonymous caller!"
