"Eat This, Not That" And Lose Weight

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― One menu mistake could actually make or break your diet.

The author of the book "Eat This Not That," David Zinczencko said if you choose the right options at your favorite sit-down restaurants you can actually lose 10 – 30 pounds over the course of a year without dieting. Many dieticians agree.

"A diet isn't the way to lose weight and really keep it off," said Zinczencko. "You have to change the way you think and eat."

"Whatever tastes good" isn't always good" for you. Many of those first choices should actually be our last resort.

Restaurants usually have a printout with information concerning the caloric and fat content of the food. If it is not printed on the menu, ask your server for the information.

If you eat on the run, know that there are healthier choices, to be had. Most chains offer healthier alternatives.

Nutritionist Dr. Sharon Price suggests if a food contains hydrogenated fat, sugars, preservatives and additives, consumers should make a different choice.

Whether in the drive thru or inside your favorite fast food spot, take a little extra time to make best choice for you down the road.
