North Texans React To Gov. Palin's Speech

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
Some North Texans are still talking about Wednesday night's speech by Senator John McCain's running mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Her speech both impressed and outraged some.
To Republicans, the self-described hockey mom scored a verbal hat-trick last night as she accepted her party's nomination to become vice-president.
"I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA, because I wanted to make my kids' public education better," said Palin in a recent interview.
"I loved her speech. I loved it very much. I was blown away by her," said Kim Locus, a Palin supporter.
As a mother of three, Locus said she identifies with Palin. She's helping to get Palin and McCain elected.
But it was Palin's attack against Democrat Barack Obama's past experience as a community organizer that not only received praise, but sharp criticism.
"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities," said Palin.
For 15 years now, Cledell Kemp has worked for ACORN, the same community organization Senator Obama was involved with. She was stunned by Palin's remarks.
"I thought that was awful because many, many times we have to remind the mayors of what's really going on," said Kemp.
No doubt Palin's performance surprised many last night, but now the big question is can her speech can translate into votes?
