New Laser Treatment Takes Less Recovery Time

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Unwanted age spots, wrinkles even acne scars can be difficult to remove. But a new twist on an old cosmetic procedure is offering some patients new hope.

Old laser treatments came with a very long recovery time because it removed the entire top layer of skin.

But new software has completely changed how the treatment works. Instead of removing the entire surface, it removes thousands of tiny dots. It's called the SmartXide Dot Laser.

"We've now left most of the skin surface in tact. It's able to heal from the sides as well," said Dr. Bill Johnson, owner of the Innovations MedSpa in Dallas.

Recovery time for the procedure is just two or three days. The cost for the laser treatment is around $4,000.
