Fad Diet Week: Volumetrics
(CBS 11 News)
As part of Fad Diet Week, CBS 11 is taking a look at various programs that promise weight loss.
Volumetrics is based on the premise "eat until you're full."
The diet is based on the principal that anyone should be able to eat as much as they want -- just choose low- density foods.
Low-density foods are water-based items that have fewer calories. Examples include fruits and non-starchy veggies. Nonfat milk and yogurt and even soup broths also are classified in the group.
Avoid high-density foods like crackers, chips, candies, butter and oils are key in this diet because they pack lots of calories into a small space.
Experts say if a dieter focuses on the less dense, water-based foods, counting calories won't even be a factor.
