Wedding Planners Working With Tighter Budgets

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The recession has many engaged couples singing the wedding bell blues. Tough times are making it difficult for many to cover the enormous expense of planning their nuptials.

A spokesperson with the Diamond Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth said they have seen three times as many cancelations as compared to the year before. That has caused the wedding venue to be more flexible with their prices.

"I'm a little more willing to negotiate. A little more willing to go back and forth," said James Bond, a wedding coordinator at the country club.

For example, a couple could pay about $6,000 for the venue, food and beverages at the club. But one couple was able to negotiate the price down to $4,000. If a couple wanted colorful linins, it would have cost them more. Now, Bond said he would cut that cost.

Couples should know they can negotiate with other wedding venders as well, like photographers and florists.

Couples can also find bargains at the annual Bridal Show. It will be held on January 24 and 25 at Dallas Market Hall. The show will then be in Fort Worth on February 21 and 22 at the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall.
