Staying committed to staying in shape is tough for a lot of people. But commitment goes to a whole new level for a group who faces far more challenges than most others.
Some walk through the door, others come through using walkers. But once inside
Crull Fitness, everyone is equal. Instructor Brian Crull barks out orders for these North Texans who live with varying physical and mental challenges.
There is no special treatment, just treatment that is wonderfully special.
It's inspiring to watch Crull interact with these folks, taking men and women through an hour-long workout that would be a challenge for anyone -- from aerobic work on the elliptical machines to stretching and core work.
The athletes are all part of a special needs program called
My Possibilities, including Matthew Gentry. His father said that the program has helped more than just physically. "His self-esteem has just increased quite a bit," said Ron Gentry.
"We don't treat them like they're special needs," Crull said. "We treat them like we do any of our athletes. We challenge them. We push them. We motivate them."
And Crull does all of this for nothing. Or, depending on how you look at it, he receives the best payback possible -- a smile that's worth a million bucks.
