Gina Miller Talks About Finding The Right Shoe
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
I learned a ton shooting our first 'Get Healthy Texas' piece about
getting a properly fitted shoe.
I actually went in and got fitted for new shoes about three weeks ago after an eight mile run left my feet blister-ridden. My fitting was the same process you saw in our piece in which I jogged back and forth, did some squats and balancing exercises.
I ran four miles the next day, 12 that Saturday and my little (ok, not really, size 11) feet never felt better.
Mitch Hayes, the manager at the Dallas Run-On, said that a well-fitted shoe shouldn't feel like your wearing a shoe. It should feel like a house slipper. It should mold around your feet and your feet shouldn't be slipping or rubbing against the shoe.
A couple of other interesting things I learned:
-- About 90 percent (who knew THAT many) of people have a half-size foot difference. My right foot is an 11, the left about a 10.5.
-- Synthetic socks are best. They wick the sweat off your feet and prevent hot spots which can lead to BLISTERS! NO COTTON SOCKS!
-- Tying your shoe makes a difference! Check out our web-only story about
how to tie a runner's loop.
It doesn't matter if you are running, walking or running around town, a good foundation is key to keeping your body well and injury-free. I have worn the wrong shoes before and my sore back let know about it!
Would love to hear your stories and ideas!
