Dallas PD Runs Its Lawn Sprinklers In The Rain
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Even though North Texas has been drenched with rainfall, the Dallas Police Department has been running its sprinkler system this week.
Our news crews saw the sprinklers running at the DPD headquarters Tuesday morning. There was so much water that the excess was running onto the sidewalk.
Parts of our area have received more than a foot of rain since last Thursday.
When citizens are caught running their sprinklers while it's raining, they can be fined up to $2000. Many citizens we spoke with say it's hypocritical and a waste of money and natural resources for the police to be running its sprinklers.
When we asked the department about the issue, a spokesperson said one of the rain sensors was broken and that they are working to fix the problem.
In addition, the security guards at the department have been instructed to make sure the sprinklers are off everytime it rains.
The department said it is important to set an example for citizens when it comes to water conservation.
This isn't the first time we've caught a government agency wasting water.
