Denton County Reports 1st H1N1 Related Death

DENTON COUNTY (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Family and friends are mourning the death of 49-year-old Betty Jean Jones. Jones is the first person in Denton County to die from swine flu or the H1N1 virus.

The Denton County Health Department says Jones had underlying health issues. BJ, as she was known to friends, was a chiropractor in Lewisville.

Friends say Jones was generous, faithful and a loving soul. Jones leaves behind a college age daughter.

So far, Denton County has received 1,400 doses of the H1N1 vaccine and has administered nearly all of that medication. The county is hoping to receive another shipment of vaccine in the next few weeks.

For the past five years, Denton County has averaged 55 seasonal flu related deaths each year.
