Carter Blood Care Initiating Smoke Free Policy
NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
New anti-smoking rules at one North Texas business have some employees fuming. The rules restrict smoking off of business property and before work hours.
The new rules went into effect at Carter BloodCare today. They not only regulate smoking inside the building, but outside of the security gates.
The new rules say there is to be no smoking
-- During the work day
-- Immediately before/after work
-- On or adjacent to CBC property
-- At any off site CBC event
In a written statement Carter BloodCare officials said their goal is to create a pleasant, healthy work environment for employees. The company is offering smoking cessation counseling. The counseling will help employees move toward temporarily and then eventually completely stopping smoking.
One smoker, who wanted to remain anonymous, says she understands workplace restrictions but has a problem with before and after work.
"I pull up to my car, through that gate, and whip my badge to get in that gate, I'll put the cigarette out then because then I'm on their property. But they can't tell me I can't smoke up to that point in my own car," she said.
Officials with Carter BloodCare say the new policy is based on similar ones that have been adopted for medical and health facilities across the United States.
