Fructose Intake Could Affect Weight Loss
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
According to researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center, one reason low-carb diets work is because of the accompanying reduction of fructose intake.
Experts explain noticeable weight loss when a dieter limits their processed carbohydrates; because of those items contain high-fructose corn syrup.
"Our study shows for the first time the surprising speed with which humans make body fat from fructose," Dr. Elizabeth Parks said in a press release statement. "Fructose, glucose and sucrose, which is a mixture of fructose and glucose, are all forms of sugar but are metabolized differently."
Fructose is most commonly the major component in the sweetener called high-fructose corn syrup or HFCS. The mix of fructose and glucose is similar to that found in fruit and has a preferred
sweetener for many food manufacturers because it is generally cheaper, sweeter and easier to blend than table sugar.

Dr. Park suggests that limiting processed foods containing sugar, not eliminating fruit from a diet, may help with weight loss.
