New Liposuction Procedure Taking Away 'Cankles'
PLANO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
It's one of those trouble spots on the body where aerobics and exercise can only do so much. So surgeons have come up with a new treatment to help the latest body obsession, cankles.
Cankles refer to the spot on a person's legs where the calf meets the ankle.
Many women, like Millie Sukkar are pre-disposed to excess leg and ankle fat that just won't go away. Sukkar says, "I've always had larger calves and a little bit thicker ankles than I really wanted. It's something that I've often thought about through the years."
Sukkar came to Dr. Scott Harris and the American Institute for Plastic Surgery in Plano for a new liposuction procedure aimed at her ankles. Dr. Harris explained what he'll be doing. "What we're going to try to do today is try to develop a greater definition of the ankles. We'll do a little bit of skin tightening afterwards to get the skin to come in and lay real smoothly."
Sukkar stays awake during the procedure. It only requires a local anesthetic. First, Doctor Harris will melt away the fat around her ankles using a laser. Dr. Harris explained "We have some small incisions, some very tiny incisions that are located around the ankle, I'll put the laser in and with my foot pedal, and I'll begin doing the liposuction."
And then he suctions the fat out of the leg. "We're taking down the area between the Achilles tendon and the ankle bone."
The result is a slimming and contouring of the skin around the ankles. Dr. Harris told Sukkar, "Things are definitely thinner and we'll have more definition around the ankle."
Sukkar told CBS 11, "I'm really looking forward to seeing what they look like after the recovery period."
It will take about three months for full results to become evident. The cost runs between 25-hundred and four thousand dollars.
