The former chairman of internal medicine at JPS Hospital in Fort Worth pleaded guilty this morning to possessing child pornography.
Court records show Dr. James Shin was charged by federal prosecutors in Dallas earlier this month.
Court records show agents with ICE in Washington, DC received a tip last September that Shin received child pornography on his computer at his Southlake home. Prosecutors say Shin allowed the agents to look at his computer, and they found "numerous" images and videos of child pornography.
Shin admitted to the agents that he knowingly downloaded the images from the internet.
As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, court records show a maximum sentence Shin faces is ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Shin, who prosecutors say is also known as Young Jin Shin and James Young-Jin Shin, declined to comment as he left federal court in Dallas this morning.
He will be sentenced on October 2.
In an email to CBS 11 News, a hospital spokeswoman said,
"Dr. James Shin is no longer employed with JPS. He is being paid pursuant to his employment contract which ended May 27." However, as late as 11:55 Thursday morning Shin was still listed on the JPS website as the chairman of internal medicine. The hospital had removed his name when we checked again an hour later.
