From Europe to North Texas, a new cosmetic procedure promises to help you literally burn off the fat that you may not be able to burn off in the gym. The new laser claims to melt the fat and tighten your skin with less bruising and less downtime.
Megan Hilton says she didn't like the way she looked two months ago. So, she had a laser liposuction procedure done on her chin. "First day you're laid up at home, second day just kinda tired and the next day I was out and about," she explained.
Hilton thought the chin procedure was so simple that she returned to Dr. Briant Herzog, in Plano, for another procedure - this time on her abdomen. Hilton said, "Anyone you know who has kids knows you have a little belly you can't get rid of and so I'm looking forward to not having to worry about that and having to hide that with clothes."
According to Dr. Herzog the new technology is better than traditional liposuction. "With this procedure, there is much less bruising, much less pain, and a much quicker recovery period."
During the procedure Herzog will inject fluids to numb the skin, but Hilton will remain awake, something that was very important to her. Next, the goggles go on, the lights go out and the laser goes to work.
Dr. Herzog says the heat generated by the lipotherme laser causes the skin to contract, resulting in firmer, smoother skin. "It actually hits the bottom side of the skin and will cause the fibroblast or the connected tissue in there to proliferate and tighten skin. So it is excellent for skin tightening and fat removal."
As the laser delivers energy, Dr. Herzog says it also destroys fat cells.
During the procedure, Hilton said, "I can feel movement but it doesn't hurt at all." Six weeks after the procedure, in a side-by-side comparison, it doesn't look like Hilton can 'pinch an inch' on her side and her stomach is flatter and appears more toned.
Dr. Herzog says patients usually return to activities within a day or two and the procedure is FDA approved.
Laser liposuction can be done in one session on a number of body areas - including the abdomen, chin, waist, hips, thighs, buttocks, and backs of arms.
