NTTA Rejects Solutions To Ease Traffic Congestion

Reporting

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Thousands of commuters on the Dallas North Tollway and George Bush Turnpike during rush hour would. But the Tollway authority is rejecting two proposed solutions.
Transportation planners recently proposed cutting traffic tie-ups on both highways by creating an HOV lane.
They've also discussed allowing car poolers who use the HOV lane to travel at a discounted price.
An agency spokeswoman said such a system would be "impossible" because there's no technology to enforce the rule.
The North Texas Transit Authority also worries they would lose money, which would affect investors who bought bonds that paid for the roads.
Transportation planners say they've offered to make up any losses.
Planners have also suggested charging higher tolls for driving in peak periods. But a spokesperson for NTTA said officials aren't interested in that idea either.
NTTA said rush hour traffic will be reduced after they take down all of the tollbooths and go to electronic tolling. However that won't be done until two years from now.
