Police Search For Teens In Grandfather Shooting

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The search continues for two teenagers police believe were involved in a deadly shooting.  Witnesses say the juveniles shot an elderly man as he sat inside his truck on the north side of Fort Worth.

The victim's family told CBS 11 News that on Monday Abboud Greig had gone to check on some rental properties he recently bought.  Somehow the 74-year-old ended up in his truck with two teenagers who, police say, killed him in cold blood.

The victim's son, Steve Greig, said, "It's crushing. We lost our leader. We lost our love."

Members of the Greig family said if you knew Abboud you would have loved him.  "He was very friendly and outgoing and you could tell his love for people just from talking to him for a few minutes," explained Abboud's daughter, Tina Kardaras.

According to Abboud's children their father was the kind of man who would give people almost anything, if they asked... so they can't understand why anyone would kill him.  "For whatever reason they did it, whatever little money they received, it's a life. Families are destroyed," Steve said emotionally.  "Ten grandkids won't see their grandparents on a weekly basis anymore, because of the money they wanted to take. It's insane."

The shooting happened around 5:30 pm on Monday.  Witnesses saw Abboud's blue pickup truck pull over on N.W. Loraine Street.  They heard a gunshot, and then saw a boy and a girl between 14 and 17-years-old run away from the truck.

Fort Worth Police Department spokesperson Lt. Paul Henderson said when the witnesses approached the truck they discovered the victim 'slumped over with a gunshot wound to his head'.

Greig's wallet, cash, and keys were stolen.  But police don't know if robbery was the only motive for the murder.  Greig owned more than 50 rental properties in north Fort Worth, and according to his widow had been having problems with some tenants not paying their rent.  The woman believes her husband may have been out trying to collect some of those past due bills when he was killed, but police haven't made an official connection.

Greig's children said their father loved to travel and loved his family. Tomorrow would have been his 50th wedding anniversary.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police.
