Noise Complaint Leads To Alleged Knife Attack

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― A simmering noise complaint bubbled over into an alleged knife attack at an east Dallas rooming house. Now fellow renters are wondering how to keep the peace once the alleged attacker gets out of jail.

Renters have described the rooming house as its own little community, where folks normally get along. That's why they say this morning's incident was confusing and scary.

David Mistrot was the target of the knife attack. "I was watching him to see what he was going to do," he said.

Mistrot said someone had called police earlier in the morning complaining of noise. At about 4 a.m. his downstairs neighbor was pounding on his door and threatening him. But when he followed the man back to his door, he got a dangerous surprise.

According to police, 49-year-old Gary James Nowlin chased Mistrot back upstairs, threatening Mistro and repeatedly jabbing the knife at him.

Mistrot was not hurt. Nowlin was arrested as he left for work, but police have not found the knife. CBS 11 News has been unsuccessful trying to reach Nowlin for his version of what happened. Neighbors have been sticking up for both Mistro and for Nowlin.
