Arlington Man Dies In N.M. Plane Crash
Plane Crashes Into Hangar Near Alamogordo
ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) ―
The pilot of a small airplane was found dead after the craft crashed into a hangar at White Sands Regional Airport just after landing.
Donald H. Edwards of Arlington, died Wednesday, said Lt. Theo O. Livingston of the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety.
Edwards was alone in the 1967 Cessna, which had propellers in the front and the rear, police said.
There was no immediate indication whether the crash might have been caused by a mechanical or a medical problem, police said. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
The pilot had been communicating with the airport just before the airplane touched down, and there was no sign of trouble, police said.
The airplane landed, turned sharply to the right, taxied across the tarmac and struck the hangar, officers said.
