Police Arrest Daycare Owner In 4-Year-Old's Death
BALCH SPRINGS (CBS 11 News) ―
Balch Springs police have arrested the owner of a daycare facility there in connection with the death of a 4-year-old boy.
Jacob Fox was found unconscious at a Balch Springs park on July 20th. He later died.
Blynithia Washington owns the Dream House Learning Center, which Jacob attended. She is also the grandmother of Jacob's half-brother.
On Wednesday afternoon, police said they had arrested Washington. She is facing charges of abandoning or endangering a child, which is a second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in jail.
Authorities say Jacob died of heatstroke. Temperatures reached 104 on the 20th.
Police say officers and emergency medical personal received the call to the playground shortly after 2 p.m. The boy died later at Medical Center of Mesquite.
Jacob was part of a group of children taken to the park from the daycare.
Police say Washington left the boy at the park while she ran an errand.
Also Wednesday, Jacob's mother, Avonda Fox, announced that she has filed a lawsuit against Washington and three of the daycare center's employees.
At a news conference, Fox said, "This is just something that should not have happened. Every morning that I have to wake up my son is not going to be there. He's never going to come back."
Fox also said that she has filed a restraining order against Washington, claiming that she has received harassing phone calls from Washington. CBS 11 News was not able to reach Washington for comment.
